The Spirit of Kirtan Camp

“The Spirit of Kirtan with Shikhaa and Mayank is dynamic and lively, and also opens to the subtly of meditation.”  ─Bartosz Szentak

The Spirit of Kirtan camp is a special opportunity to come together and discover the power of song and rhythm, through the Indian tradition of Kirtan (call & response singing of ancient Sanskrit mantras).

You don’t have to sing in tune, or have any musical experience to be enriched by the atmosphere of kirtan. All children sing and hum to themselves; it is a natural bubbling up from inside to express contentment. Therefore, kirtan is not sung as a performance, it is to be sung like a child singing with the joy of simply being alive.

Singing kirtan is a powerful method that uncovers our inherent love and joy because the vibration of the Sanskrit language is in tune with the subtle energies of the human nervous system.

However you participate, kirtan uplifts the spirit.

During the Spirit of Kirtan Camp we will:

  • Sing simple mantras and receive the powerful benefits of mantra-repetition (mantra jap)
  • Daily drumming workshop to explore rhythm and percussion.
  • Learn a traditional Vedic chant/hymn that unfolds deep wisdom teachings.
  • Experience how singing deepens the space of stillness in meditation.
  • Kirtan tunes you in to your true nature – ever-present, ever-free.

“Kirtan is a direct path to know yourself.” ─Claire Hortoneda
“Kirtan is a heart-felt way to access the source of our vitality.” ─Ali Haywood
“Kirtan unleashes the spirit of our original freedom.” ─Aanand Prakash
“Kirtan is a profound channel for meditation.” ─Bobbi Jo
